A quick note that disappears.

scrth is a scratchpad for the thought you need for the next ten minutes and not after that. It lives in the menu bar, has no Dock icon, and shows you one thing: a slip of paper. There is no sidebar, no library, no folders — notes that leave on their own don't need filing.

the whole app, in four chords

• ⌥Spacesummons the slip, already holding a note with the caret in it — without pulling you out of the app you're in.
• Escmakes it gone. A blank slip is discarded silently.
• ⌃⌥Cmakes a new note from the text you copied, without changing your clipboard.
• ⌘Llays the pile — every living note — over the same panel. Type to filter it; the pile is also the search.

time is visible, not explained

A note ages. Its ink fades as its life runs out, and then it lets itself go. New notes are crisp; dying notes are pale. One glance tells you where a note is in its life — no badges, no expiry dialog, no reminder to tidy up.

Notes that need to stay can be pinned or given a reminder, and those stop ageing. Everything else takes care of itself. How long a note lives is yours to set.

notes save themselves

There is no Save command, no file, and no folder to choose. You type; it's kept. If you let a note go by mistake, ⌘Z brings it back, and what you did let go waits in Recently Deleted before the sweep takes it.

local-first, and that's the whole story

Your notes stay on your Mac. There is no account to make, no cloud sync, no analytics, and no server for scrth to talk to — because there is no server. Hourly backups are written as plain Markdown files on your own disk, one file per note, readable in any text editor.

To capture selected text without copying it, chooseNew scrth Note with Selection from any app’s Services menu. scrth asks only for notification permission, and only when you set a reminder. Nothing is sent anywhere. See theprivacy policy for the details.
